The latest news on Tropical Breezes is that we did get accepted by Apple Vacations as an affiliate. We suggest you look around the website and when you are ready, start looking at prices on Apple. I also suggest that you check out other sources for pricing but when you combine air and hotel Apple is very hard to beat.

We have also been working on a Cigar Page that should be completed within a week or so. Dominican cigars are some of the best in the world but as a traveler you need to be on your toes. Knockoff Cigars are very common in all countries and Punta Cana is no different. So if you are thinking about buy for yourself or others do you homework, they have perfected the art of selling. I have included a few tips on buying cigars while your in Punta Cana.

One more item that we have added to puntacana-vacation.com is a flight tracker to our "Airport" page. This will allow you not only to see current flights, but also allows you to see other airlines and schedules. We have had several requests so we agreed that it could help you with your planning. So here is what we have added in the past 30 days for you...Flight Tracker, Google Maps, Apple Vacations booking, and a recipe submission form so you can brag up your recipes to your family and friends. There is much more coming! So please check back.

The Tropical Breezes have just blown in some great news! Punta Cana Vacation was just pre-approved to become an affiliate of Apple Vacations. We are just waiting to see if we get final approval from Apple Vacations themselves. So why is that good news to you? Apple Vacations offer some of the best deals for All Inclusive Resorts in Punta Cana. The downside for us is that once you click on Apple Vacations you will be taken to their website. We talked it over and decided that we needed a way to book vacations on this website if we truly want to help you sail your vacation into the port that is right for you. We don’t want you to leave this site but we do want puntacana-vacation.com to help you plan your trip. The crew discussed who would give us the best venue to do just that. After reviewing all the great travel booking sites we narrowed it down until Apple Vacations became the clear winner. We sent off an email with information about our site. We hope to have a travel website up and running on our site within several weeks so please be patient, remember I have a bunch of Slackers for a crew. (It’s fun having control of the keyboard).

We suggest that you look over our site, review our slide shows and then when you are ready, check out Apple Vacations or whoever gets the final approval. We feel that you will be happy with this choice but if we get enough requests we might add sites like Expedia, Travelocity, and Orbitz.

Some other changes you may have noticed in the past few weeks is the addition of the Maps page and some videos added to Jim's Caribbean Recipe's page just to spice things up. Jim has also added a form so you can add your great Recipes to this website. It's amazing how hard he is working now that he was voted Slacker of the Month. We are also experimenting with videos of Punta Cana on You Tube and will be putting them on this site as well. You can also submitt Your videos and pictures and we will get them posted.

Just one last note: If my crew was as dedicated as I am, they would lose their jobs like I did. That would give them a little more time to help swab the decks around this web site. But I guess they are just to lazy to get downsized...what is a Captain to do.

November

Let's see what the Tropical Breezes are blowing in for November!... As I mentioned in my last blog, I too was caught up in corporate downsizing and have been searching for work. Thanks to those who emailed with best wishes, it seems to be paying off. I just completed two interviews, one in Dallas and one in Kansas City. I am still hopeful to pull off a few vacations in 2010. Well a lot of things are starting to happen here at puntacana-vacation.com. If you have visited us before then you have noticed that the web site has a new look and feel. We also have been hard at work changing our photo page to slide shows with music. Currently we are restricted on the music we can add but the host site is looking into changing that. We would love for you to send in your vacation photos to put on the page, just fill in the lines on the "contact" page and I will let you know how to proceed, (it's really easy on your part).

I have also put up a links page which I will continue to grow as I find other nice vacation web sites in the U.S. and throughout the world. In the future the crew will be building pages on Dominican Cigars, Currency and and conversions, and we are looking at updating our All Inclusive Resorts page. There are now over 100 resorts to choose from so we need to research the best way to present them to you in a timely manor.

It is also time to name a new Slacker of the Month (other than me). The crew has nominated Jim and I believe he even voted for himself. His page on Caribbean Recipes is just a little short on content and I just happen to have a photo of Jim in one of his finer moments.

Finally....one of our crew members(Bob-o) will be left alone for one week while his wife attends a wedding in beautiful Hawaii. Actually we think she just needs a break from him. He has set up his annual "Adopt-a-Bob" auction in which the unlucky winner gets him for a whole week. So far he has received offers of...a broken golf tee, a bucket with the bottom missing, and a free ride on a three legged donkey named Fred. So please DO NOT rush to get your offers in or you might get stuck for a week.

October

What a year! If you read my January update you will notice that I thought there was a real chance that would lose my job. Unfortunately I was right, and have been spending my days doing on line searches, interviews etc. After a long summer of looking, things are finely beginning to shape up. I started working out on my bike, surfing the net for work , listening to island music & dreaming about those tropical breezes in the Caribbean. I have 3 interviews coming up this month - Dallas, Kansas City and Chicago. So it looks like I will have to move; however, I have discovered that the Caribbean is right where I left it.

The Punta Cana Vacation crew is starting to make plans for the destination of our next island trip and we are finding that the incredible deals continue on all inclusive vacations. So here is my suggestion, it doesn't cost anything to dream, a day without sunshine is like.....night. So fill your glass with your favorite island drink, put on some Caribbean music and start to look at all those vacation web sites (I now have links on this site to help).

Happy new year!

The Puntacana-vacation crew has made our choice for this years trip to the Caribbean, and once again we chose to go to Punta Cana. We found some great vacation packages for Dreams resort and Spa. Some of amenities that we found attractive was that the pool that runs from the front of the resort all the way down to the beach. No matter where you are staying you will be just a few steps away from the pool. Some of the other items that we were attracted to was the fact that you don't have to make reservations at the restaurants and there is no limit on how often you eat at each. Other all inclusives you must make reservations upon arrival and can only make 3 or 4 during your stay. They have branded drinks which is nice if you have a taste for alcohol from other countries. They also serve on the beach which usually you need to save your chair and wander back up to the resort. But trust me, most resorts have a mixed drink just a few wobbly steps away if that is your thing. Also at Dreams you do not have to wear a wrist band like other resorts, however that was never an issue for me.

The downside of this resort from what I have researched is that the beach is not white, it's more of a tan. It also contains some rocks but that is offset by some nice views. As a group we tend to take long walks so a few rocks in front of our resort will not be an issue. The other negative is that I have to travel with the same scruffy crew that I went with last year. You could combine all their brains and it wouldn't fill a aspirin bottle. (It's nice being editor, they can't respond to that last comment). I think this year is going to be a great vacation but I will never tell them that.

One last thought...the world economy is the worst it's been in most of our life time and I don't believe we have hit bottom yet. As a mater of fact I am betting that I will be unemployed before I even make this years trip. So what can you do, worrying doesn't help and the upside is that vacation spots are now at bargain rates. They can take your job, your house, your car but they can't take your memories so just breath slow and deep and take that trip you have been dreaming about. What the heck you can't take the material things with you when you leave this world anyway. You spend the first half of your life collecting material things and the second half trying to get rid of all the stuff you thought you had to have. No, truly it is about friends, family and enjoying what is out there, we just need to take a little time to look. I strongly believe you just need to pull down your pants and slide on the ice once and awhile.
